Norway and Sweden had refused the ship from entering their ports due to the nature of its cargo, as it is carrying around 20,000 tonnes of highly explosive ammonium nitrate.
A Malta-flagged cargo ship carrying a significant amount of fertiliser that was initially headed towards the Baltic Sea for repairs over the weekend is now headed towards Malta, Danish public broadcaster DR reported on Monday.
Norway and Sweden had refused the ship from entering their ports due to the nature of its cargo, as it is carrying around 20,000 tonnes of highly explosive ammonium nitrate.
The Malta-flagged Ruby encountered a storm during its journey towards the Canary Islands after setting off from the Kola Peninsula in August. According to the vessel’s log, it ran aground after departure, but for some reason, the ship did not return to port.
The Ruby remained in waters south of Norway since Friday. As of Monday evening the ship was in the North Sea, heading towards Malta, according to marinetraffic.com.
