Chess prodigy Jack Mizzi and weightlifting powerhouse Tenishia Thornton have just been awarded October’s Atlas Youth Athlete of the Month Award for their outstanding athletic performances.
18-year-old Mizzi has wowed on both the national and international stages with his Chess expertise. Having won the 89th edition of the Malta Chess Championship only a few weeks ago and re-confirmed the Junior Champion title for the third year in a row.
Mizzi is currently in Montenegro, representing Malta at the European Chess Championships and doing stellar work, making it up to the fifth round with two out of four wins.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Thornton continues cementing her outstanding reputation in the world of weightlifting by being crowned as the new European Champion at the European Junior Championships in Warsaw, Poland.
Her performance earned her three gold medals across three events and even set an incredible new national record, further adding to her long list of achievements throughout the years.
The award was presented to Thornton by Atlas Insurance CEO Matthew von Brockdorff and Malta Sports Journalist Association President Clinton Buhagiar and Administrator Stephen Azzopardi, with Jack set to receive his award in person upon his arrival back to Malta later on.
