Local hip-hop artist and breakdancer, Liston, released a song about how his father’s boxing career inspired the opening of a boxing gym for people with special needs.

The song title, “IDOLU”, refers to how the gym’s owner, Kurt Muscat, better known as Kartieri, idolised Liston’s father, Vincent Bongailas, who had an extensive 18-year boxing career, earning both national and international titles throughout.

The song featured lyrics by Liston in collaboration with Jillyanne Barbara as well as musical track by Siconix and guitar instrumentals from Liston’s father himself.

Over the years, Muscat followed in his idol’s footsteps and even took it one step further by opening the Kartieri Boxing Club (KBC) in Żabbar, which offers free lessons to children in need as well as their parents.

In the music video accompanying the song, one can not only see the legacy of Vince Bongailas and how it truly inspired a young Muscat, but also the inner workings of the honourable cause that followed.

Muscat, with the support and inspiration of Vince, has taught young kids and adults how to stay determined and true to themselves, whilst also keeping active.

The production, filmed by RAW Media Malta, truly captures the essence of the initiative that Muscat started and is a wholesome reminder of the good-natured individuals on our island striving to make a difference.

Congratulations to Liston and the team for the song, and an extended well-done to Kartieri for his honourable achievements.

You can watch the full music video on Liston or KBC’s Facebook pages or YouTube.
