IZI Group has undertaken a new milestone project and launched the first historical horse race installation outside of the US.
The new installation has been housed in a new, multi-million gaming centre in Malta, which IZI Group CEO Johann Schembri described as an ideal location. “Our regulatory environment, our underlying technological infrastructure and our geographic location provide the right ingredients for a project of this type,” he said.
IZI Group is one of the foremost land-based gaming operator in Malta, running the iconic Dragonara Casino. It also recently took over the operations of the island nation’s national lottery.
Also known as instant racing, historical horse racing allows players to bet on replays of real horse races via slot-style terminals and visuals to project the outcome. It’s popularity has grown steadily in the US since it was first launched more than 25 years ago.
“While Malta will always remain a focal point for our group, our next major development is to now leverage our expertise in the industry to exploit international opportunities,” said Schembri. “Having launched the first HHR installation outside the USA, with our partners Exacta and IGT, opens up a world of opportunities internationally.
“Our aim is to replicate the model adopted in Malta to leverage the scale of larger markets in other parts of the world. This is a top priority for our group.”
