Sport Malta, the government agency in charge of sports in Malta, has formally directed Santa Luċija FC to eliminate rental vehicles from Sicily by Car that are parked in areas allocated for sports activities.
An official letter sent in September contains a warning that suggests the agency might take legal action if the club persists in leasing land designated for sports to the car rental company.
The exchange was revealed during a recent parliamentary session on Wednesday, shared in reply to enquiries from PN Deputy Bernice Bonello. Even with the warning now available to the public, it is still uncertain whether Sport Malta has taken any legal action.
The communication from Sport Malta establishes a clear deadline: “You must return the designated area to its original condition within two days from the date of this letter.”
“Not adhering to the specified deadline will result in additional legal measures being taken against you,” it indicated.
An aerial photograph showcased the region that Santa Luċija FC leased to Sicily by Car, an Italian car rental franchise operated locally by Princess Holdings Ltd., a company owned by car rental entrepreneur Christian Borg, who has encountered legal allegations in an unrelated abduction case.
Sport Malta has strengthened its position by stating that further actions will be implemented if Santa Luċija FC does not adhere to the directive.
In response to Bonello’s inquiry about any actions taken on the matter, Minister for Sport Clifton Grima made the letter public.
