Ħamrun Spartans have concluded the signing of midfielder Jovan Cadjenovic, the Times of Malta can confirm.
The Malta champions have failed to live up to expectations in the Opening Round of the 360 Sports Malta Premier and are determined to put themselves back in the reckoning to try and retain the Premier League title for a third successive season.
In recent weeks, club president Joseph Portelli had made his intentions clear that he was set to strengthen his squad ahead of the Closing Round and the Malta champions have been working hard in recent weeks to find suitable additions.
Sources have confirmed to the Times of Malta, that the Spartans agreed terms to sign 29-year-old midfielder Cadjenovic who has just ended the season with Lithuanian top-flight club Panevezys.
The Montenegrin defensive midfielder boasts a very eye-catching CV as during his career he was on the books of some of the top clubs in Serbia.
After coming through the youth ranks at Partizan Belgrade he was promoted to the first team of the Serbian giants before moving to FK Zemun and Borak Cacak.
In 2018, he moved to Lithuania where he spent two seasons with Suduva where he won the league championship that year and the Cup the following season.
Cadjenovic also had spells in Kazakhstan with Taraz and Kaysar before he returned to Lituhania in 2023 where he helped the club to win the league title.
Cadjenovic was a regular member of the team with 31 appearances and scoring one goal while also collecting four appearances for the club in the Champions League qualifiers.
The arrival of the Montenegrin player is likely to provide more physical power to the Spartans midfield which is currently without two key players in Roko Prsa and Eder who are recovering from injury.
